what should I expect at my newborn session
congratulations, you’re having a baby!
here’s the scoop on what to expect and a few recommendations
before the shoot, please make sure your baby has been fed
if possible, give them a bath, and afterwards allow them to kick about with just a nappy for just a few hours before your shoot. awake time will help to ensure a sleepy babe
in transit aim to dress your baby in a grow suit which can easily be unbuttoned/zipped. Awkward clothing, in particular anything which is removed over your baby's head, will often result in waking or fussing.
i LOVE a dummy! even if you haven't used one or aren't planning to use one, it can be so helpful when your baby is unsettled
your newborn will be, at times, un-swaddled/clothed; therefore, the studio space is quite warm. Please dress accordingly, and add a change of clothing as there may be some sweating or baby spit-up!
dads, if possible, avoid black. slim fitting neutral tone t-shirts are ideal. this helps to keep any puckering at bay
mums, I love floaty dresses, hair out and natural. often included are close-ups of hands, so ensure your nails are neutral and neat, and again please avoid black
siblings, much the same as parents, hold off on any bright clothing with writing and imagery, large bows, headbands and tightly pulled back hair. again, simple is best
bring along any snacks, water and iPads/books for those in-between moments
better still is when a grandparent/carer is able to pick them up once the family/sibling’s shots have been completed
i am looking forward to getting to know you and your sweet baby!
